About Us

Coopers Creek sits in the heart of the Huapai and Kumeu wine region, about 25 minutes drive north west of Auckland. It is an area steeped in tradition and home to some of the oldest established vines in New Zealand. It was here, in 1980, that Andrew and Cynthia Hendry first established the Coopers Creek winery with the aim of producing the very highest quality wines, that reflect New Zealand’s outstanding cool climate viticultural conditions.

Colour: Very pale at bottling but with time this wine will pick up green-gold tints.

Bouquet: Wines from this vineyard always have great subtlety and purity. Lemons and limes, both the fruit and the blossoms.

Palate: Medium bodied and beautifully fine with a perfect balance between acid and sugar. The finish is long and pure.

Pinot Gris

Colour: Very pale in its youth, but we know from experience that New Zealand Pinot Gris will develop onion skins tints with age.

Bouquet: Subtle, yet exotic. A melange of apple, pear, a touch of earthiness and a pinch of spice.

Palate: Medium in body, with an exceptional balance between fruit sweetness and acidity. The finish is long, spicy and textural.

Sauvignon Blanc

Colour: Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is always very pale when it is young. As this wine ages, it will develop straw and green-gold tints.

Bouquet: A melange of gooseberry, passionfruit, and nectarine backed with a touch of sweat. This is all woven together by a delightful herbal lift.

Palate: This wine has a wonderfully inviting palate. It is rich and fleshy, yet retains classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc raciness.

Swamp Reserve Chardonnay

Colour: Pale in the glass as a young wine, but will develop pale gold tints with time in the bottle.

Bouquet: Year after year the fruit from this vineyard exhibits ripe lemon and grapefruit characters. This is interwoven with subtle oak and lees and MLF derived creaminess.

Palate: Harmony and balance have become two of the hallmarks of our Swamp Reserve style. This wine has fineness and structure, yet is also incredibly complex and long.

Kumeu Rosé

Colour: At bottling this wine was a delightful pale pink. At the edge it has a pale purple iridescence. This is from Malbec. We call it the “Malbec ring of confidence”.

Bouquet: Clean and fresh and dominated by summer red fruit aromas.

Palate: This wine is full-bodied for a rosé. It has real richness and weight on the palate. It has a refreshingly juicy acid profile and a dry finish.

Pinot Noir

Colour: Vintage 2014 has given us a moderately coloured wine with a bright core and red/purple rim.

Bouquet: Black plums and black cherries intermingled with subtle oak and nuances of grilled meat.

Palate: A rich and firm style with bold, sweet fruit and supple tannins. A core of sweet black cherry fruit lingers on the palate.
